WEBKINZ CRAZE
BY SARABELLE GERMINAL
Here they are! The furry little stuffed
animals everybody is talking about! Webkinz. Webkinz were released in 2005. They come with a special code on their
collar that allows them access to Webkinz World, which is how you adopt them virtually.
The furry little animals are a smaller version of the Beanie Babies but some are being retired. More than 2 million
have been sold so far.

So I had to go out and ask real kids who have Webkinz what they thought about them. Caroline McGraw in grade 2
at Saint Helen's School said her favorite Webkinz is the snowy white bunny. When asked why she liked them so much
she said, "Because they are so cute." She also liked that they were collectibles. When I asked her how
many of these little stuffed pets she owned, to my amazement she told me twenty-two. She couldn't remember all
of their names but she did tell me she had two bunnies, hippy and hoppy, a dog named Spot and a hippo named Cherry.
I also asked Spencer Rockwell in grade 4 about his Webkinz addiction. The Husky was his Favorite Webkinz. I asked
him why he thought Webkinz were so popular and he said, "Because you get an animal plus you can go on line
with it and create its own home." Spencer told me he owned a pug puppy and its name was Na-Na.
So, from all my interviewing I discovered that Webkinz are a fun way to interact with and enjoy your stuffed animals.
No wonder they are so popluar!
